Getting the YouTube file to your computer
Today, there are several online websites setup that allow you to enter the URL of the video you wish to save to the computer and be able to quickly get a link to download the file. Below is a short list of some of the more popular free websites.Download YouTube video
http://www.videospider.info/
http://www.youtubex.com/
http://videodownloader.net
Below is a brief description of how to do this.
1.Go to the YouTube video page and copy the URL of the video you wish to save. For example, below is a URL to a video on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3ymHMgFAps
2.If done properly the page should open a new window or display a link that can be clicked to start the download of the video file. Click that link and save the file.
3.Once this address has been copied visit one of the above pages and paste that URL into the text field and hit the submit or download button.
As many of the pages state you’ll have to either save the file with a name and an extension that ends with .flv. If you did not save the file with .flv at the end you can right-click the file after it’s been downloaded and rename the file so it ends with .flv.
How to download movies from YouTube
Download YouTube movies to playback movies on their site. In addition to being universally supported on most computers, one of the many benefits of using Flash from a publishers standpoint is making it harder for people to download the movies. It’s not impossible and depending on how the Flash movies are played, you can sometimes simply dig in your Temp directory for the file because the server actually downloads the entire movie to your computer during playback. If you find a YouTube video you like, copy the URL to the page the video is on, paste it into the KeepVid download look up, choose YouTube from the list of sites and click the Download button.
For YouTube movies, it’s easier to let someone else do all the hard work of locating the file. My favorite solution for download YouTube movies is a Website called KeepVid, which locates downloads from a handful of Internet sites. It’s one of the few sites I bother bookmarking.
KeepVid will find the download link and provide instructions on how to download it.
Follow the directions and you’re almost done.YouTube uses the FLV Flash format, which isn’t immediately playable. You also need an app to play it back. Windows users will want to grab a copy of FLV Player to watch the files on your computer.
A better option is the shareware app SWF.max, which shows thumbnails of the movies and adds a number of features to control playback.

While dedicated FLV video players are available, the VLC media player is capable of FLV playback.
Once the page has loaded, you should see a red bar towards the top of the page spanning the full width of the browser. In the center of this bar are the words ‘”Save as” to download Flash video’. Right-click on the link and select “Save as…” from the contextual menu.
In order to keep the process as simple as possible, we’re going to let the Greasemonkey extension do the dirty work. How to Convert a YouTube Video
It is very easy to convert a YouTube video to an animated GIF in a nearly automated way. This tutorial should work roughly the same way on any operating system as long as you have the required tools:
1. Make sure you have access to all the required tools. As far as command line tools go, you will need wget, grep, sed, and xargs. These come with almost all Linux installations, or on Windows, you can use Cygwin. In addition, you need to have MPlayer installed.
2.Find the YouTube video you would like to convert. Make sure it is short, as a 5 minute video will become an animated GIF that is about 36 MB. The URL for the video should look like the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34Sb0hGUNIQ
Note the part after the ?v=, e.g. 34Sb0hGUNIQ. Copy this code to your clipboard or write it down.
3. Do the conversion by typing:
./mplayer -vo gif89a ducktales.flv
It takes about as long as the video normally runs in order to finish converting. When it is done, there will be a new file in the same directory called output.gif. Try dragging it into a browser to see it run.
You have just successfully convert YouTube video to an animated GIF! Click here to see the final output. Note that if it seems slow, it is most likely because the video (7.5 MB) is still loading.
