According to figures from Omniture SiteCatalyst, the MSNBC web site had its largest ever monthly video streams in June, thanks mostly to the massive popularity of Michael Jackson and his passing and a feature on President Barack Obama.
The site had over 153 million online-video streams for the month, a 14 percent increase from the site’s previous record, set in October 2008, before the Presidential election. MSNBC says over 14 percent of the streams are accountable to Michael Jackson related videos, following his death on June 25th. According to the press release, “NBC’s “Inside the Obama White House” provided an exclusive look at what happens throughout the White House and the West Wing during a day in the life of the Obama administration,” and saw strong viewership as well.
The results look promising for NBC and parent company General Electric which saw a 49 percent profit decline year-on-year for the Q2.
The site expects a strong July as well, as the MJ memorial brought in over 15 million video streams alone.

According to a US government official, the mandatory transition from analog to digital TV signals could be delayed for up to four months.
The changeover date is set for February 17th but John Podesta, co-chairman of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team, noted that the incoming President supports the delay. The new changeover date would be June 12th, an almost four month delay.
The proposal for the delay, brought forward by Senator Rockefeller IV of Virgina, could go to vote this week.
The proposal comes at a time where the government has been said to be running low on money to supply $40 USD coupons that help subsidize the cost of DTV converter boxes.

Gamers may be surprised to find that while driving through their favorite parts of town in the Xbox 360 version of the hit game Burnout Paradise, Presidential hopeful Barack Obama will be looking down at them from a few of the game’s virtual billboards.
The billboard ads, which feature Obama’s face and the tagline “Early Voting Has Begun. VoteForChange.com”, have been sighted by gamers and the publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that the campaign paid to have the ads placed there.
“Like most television, radio and print outlets, we accept advertising from credible political candidates,” EA spokeswoman Holly Rockwood added. “Like political spots on the television networks, these ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams.”
