Acer, the large notebook manufacturer has announced that it will be “pushing” Blu-ray notebooks beginning in the Q2 of this year.
The company, which had been signed to both Blu-ray and HD DVD, also predicted that the initial boost in Blu-ray sales would be seen in notebooks and not in standalone players.
Scott Lin, president of Acer, said the company’s reasoning for the notebook push was that “most homes do not yet have Full HD (1080p) ready TVs, a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will have more advantages over a stand-alone player.”
There are little details known about the specs of the new laptops but there will be a gigantic 18.4-inch screen model as well as a 16 inch model. Both will have 1080p Resolution.

The high-end home theater producer NAD has announced their first Blu-ray player, dubbed the T587, which includes Profile 2.0 support.
The T587 is expected to have the fastest load up time for Blu-ray movies (under a minute), a feature that should be welcome to many enthusiasts.
Electronista adds the player has “Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio surround sound, HDMI 1.3 output with support for Deep Color on the right HDTVs; it also supports Dolby Digital Plus for 10.2-channel sound over the newest audio systems. A front USB port handles MP3/WMA music and JPEG/PNG photos, while the disc drive itself can play back DivX clips.”
The price of course is at a premium as well, and will sell for $1500 USD when it begins shipping in early December.

Buffalo Technology has introduced its first ever external optical disc drive, a dual format HD drive dubbed the BRHC-6316U2.
The drive can read and write single or dual layer Blu-ray discs at an impressive 6x speed and can read HD DVD at 3x. As is standard, the drive can read and write DVDs at 16x.
Buffalo adds that the drive is very simple to use and connects via USB to any PC using a plug and play connection. Included with the drive is Buffalo’s own TurboUSB with Secure Lock Ware for drive encryption and the popular burning suite Nero 8 .
The company says the drive will be available for sale on Amazon, Dabs.com, Misco and Play.com for about £284 plus VAT.
