During the Nokia World event, Nokia has launched new smartphones running the latest Symbian^3 mobile operating system.
The company, still the world’s largest phone maker, says each of the devices will be integrated with Ovi services and apps.
“Today our fight back to smartphone leadership shifts into high gear,” says Niklas Savander, Executive Vice President, Markets, Nokia. “Despite new competition, Symbian remains the most widely used smartphone platform in the world. Our new family of smartphones introduced today feature the all-new Symbian OS, rewritten to be faster, easier to use, more efficient and more developer friendly.”
The flagship business device is the Nokia E7:

Touted as a business smartphone, the device adds Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and secure access to corporate email boxes, alongside a number of business apps.
Additionally, the phone has a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, full slide-out keyboard and Nokia ClearBlack technology for improved outdoor visibility. Included are an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, Dolby Digital Plus surround sound via an HDMI video output, the ability to connect to a USB stick, Flash 10 video support, and a built-in FM radio tuner.

Qualcomm has announced it has begun shipping the world’s first dual-CPU Snapdragon chips, built for high-end smartphones.
The company says the Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM8260 and MSM8660 chipsets will run cores up to 1.2GHz.
1 GHz single-core Snapdragon chips can be found in current high-end smartphones such as the Motorola Droid and HTC EVO 4G among others.
“Qualcomm’s first-generation Snapdragon chipsets set a new standard for advanced smartphones and smartbook devices, and our second-generation solutions are already shipping in volume,” says Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (via Press Release). “We are very excited by the innovation our customers are already showing as they begin designing products based on our dual-core MSM8260 and MSM8660 chipsets.”
The MSM8260 will work on HSPA+ devices and the MSM8660 for “multi-mode HSPA+/CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. B.”
Additionally, the chips will include 2D/3D acceleration engines for “Open GLES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1 accelration, 1080p video encode/decode, dedicated low power audio engine, integrated low power GPS, and support for 24-bit WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution displays.”
Although not shipping, the company also announced the QSD8672 dual-CPU chip which will have cores running at up to 1.5 GHz.

Time Warner Cable has announced the launch of free Wi-Fi for New York City subscribers.
Additionally, TWC has partnered with Cablevision to offer thousands of free Wi-Fi hotspots in NYC, as well. Wi-Fi is now available in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, parts of the Hudson Valley region, and Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey. Long Island, parts of New Jersey and Connecticut, Westchester, Rockland, Northern Hudson Valley, the Bronx, and Brooklyn will be available through the partnership.
