The UK-based company Velocix (formerly known as CacheLogic), has announced that beginning today it will be “offering live Streaming television content with a hybrid P2P live streaming client.”
So far live streaming has been a challenge to content providers as the audience for live streaming events are all trying to access the video simultaneously, putting a strain on resources.
The popular IPTV platform Joost recently made an attempt to live stream some NCAA “March Madness” basketball games via a partnership with CBS but “connections to CBS feeds were reported to have been dropped at inopportune periods.”
Velocix, on the other hand, offers a BitTorrent-compatible hybrid P2P client “which turns each viewer into a sort of peer host for additional viewers.” The streams are then available in Flash format or Windows Media format.
The company also says it has made deals with the BBC and Babelgum as well as Bollywood.tv, and Chic.tv.

A week before its US launch on July 11th, AT&T has finally announced the finalization of its pricing plans for the upcoming iPhone 3G.
As we know, the 8GB model will sell for $199 USD and the 16GB model for $299 along with mandatory 2-year contracts. The reduced prices are eligible to current subscribers, new AT&T customers and anyone current iPhone users that purchased the first generation phone before July 11th.
AT&T users that are “not eligible” can buy the device for $399 and $499 respectively and will have to switch to a new 2-year contract as well.
All users will also have to sign up for the $30-a-month unlimited data plan as well. Each user will need a voice plan to go with the data plan, and the cheapest AT&T voice plan is $39.99 for 450 anytime minutes and 5,000 night and weekend minutes. The most expensive is $99.99 per month and will get you unlimited minutes.
Additionally, if users want text messaging, they will have to pay extra. Unlimited for $20, 1,500 for $15 or 200 for $5. First generation iPhone users had unlimited text messaging included in the data plan.

Download YouTube movies to playback movies on their site. In addition to being universally supported on most computers, one of the many benefits of using Flash from a publishers standpoint is making it harder for people to download the movies. It’s not impossible and depending on how the Flash movies are played, you can sometimes simply dig in your Temp directory for the file because the server actually downloads the entire movie to your computer during playback. If you find a YouTube video you like, copy the URL to the page the video is on, paste it into the KeepVid download look up, choose YouTube from the list of sites and click the Download button.
For YouTube movies, it’s easier to let someone else do all the hard work of locating the file. My favorite solution for download YouTube movies is a Website called KeepVid, which locates downloads from a handful of Internet sites. It’s one of the few sites I bother bookmarking.

KeepVid will find the download link and provide instructions on how to download it.

Follow the directions and you’re almost done.YouTube uses the FLV Flash format, which isn’t immediately playable. You also need an app to play it back. Windows users will want to grab a copy of FLV Player to watch the files on your computer.
A better option is the shareware app SWF.max, which shows thumbnails of the movies and adds a number of features to control playback.
