Nokia and Qualcomm have jointly announced they have formed a new 15-year agreement covering mobile standards including GSM, EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, HSDPA, OFDM, WiMax, LTE and more.
As part of the agreement, the companies will settle all current litigation pertaining to any of the standards. Nokia will also drop its complaint to the European Commission about Qualcomm.
For the next 15 years, Nokia has been granted licenses for Qualcomm patents for use in Nokia mobile phones. Additionally, Nokia has agreed to not use any of Qualcomm’s patents directly against the company, thuus allowing for Qualcomm to integrate Nokia technologies into their chipsets.
Qualcomm will receive an up-front payment and yearly royalties but the numbers were not disclosed.

After being found guilty in June of criminal copyright infringement for his role as an administrator for the now-defunct torrent site EliteTorrents, Daniel Dove now faces 18 months in prison after being sentenced by the Justice Department this morning.
In addition to his prison time, Dove was also sentenced to three years of supervised released and a $20,000 USD fine. The sentencing was considerably light considering he faced up to 10 years and a $150,000 USD fine.
The sentencing concludes the investigation into the EliteTorrents administrators who were held responsible for the leak of a workprint of the blockbuster hit “Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith” two days before it hit theaters.
The government described Dove as “an administrator of a small but crucial group of Elite Torrents members known as ‘Uploaders,’ who were responsible for supplying pirated content to the group.”
Before the site was shut down by authorities in 2005, it was one of, if not the most popular torrent trackers in the US.
Dove was the last of eight EliteTorrents administrators and uploaders to be sentenced and was the only one who pleaded not guilty. The others who pleaded guilty received smaller 5 month sentences.

The American branch of Capcom has revealed that sales of the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 have been “pirated to hell” and that Capcom Japan now refuses to release it digitally.
Capcom vice president of strategic planning Christian Svensson noted, “I’m not sure about how Capcom in general feels but it’s not doing as well as I would like in the US at retail.”
“It’s such a good version and it really deserves better sales. I know it’s getting pirated to hell and back (it was up on torrents literally the day it shipped).”
“I certainly have pushed for digital distribution on the title but Capcom Japan so far has not allowed it,” added Svensson.
The VP also noted that Capcom hoped to eventually release all their US titles digitally, alongside their physical media brothers.
“For the record all Capcom Entertainment developed titles will be distributed extremely widely via digital channels (not just Steam or Direct2Drive, but more than a dozen partners across more than 100 sites/portals for everything we do).
“I’ve spent the last year building up that channel and I’m continuing to add partners even in advance of Age of Booty, MotoGP, Neopets, Dark Void and Flock shipping,” he said.
