Sony has noted today that their ‘Reader’ line of e-readers is selling out, worldwide, with supply dwindling for some models.
The company’s two high-end models, the Touch and Daily, will most likely be sold out before Christmas.
Without giving a specific number, Sony would only say that they are selling “millions” of the gadgets.
Surprisingly, the company says the cheaper low-end Pocket was not selling well and supply was heavy.
Sony has strong competition in the market, with market leaders Amazon and Barnes & Noble continuously adding features and dropping prices.

Market research firm IDC has said today that the end of the PC-centric era is near, with tablet and smartphone shipments set to overtake PC shipments in 2012.
IDC makes sure to note, however, that PC sales will continue to increase, as well, just at a much slower rate than gadgets that rely on touchscreen and apps.
Worldwide shipments of “app-enabled devices” will reach 377 million in 2011, and 462 million shipments in 2012, exceeding PCs which are expected to ship 402 million in 2011 and 448 million in 2012.
Frank Gens, chief analyst at IDC says tablets and smartphones are “not replacing the PC — that’s a key point — but [they are] expanding the market.”
Overall, global IT spending will jump 5.7 percent to $1.6 trillion in 2011.

Engadget has posted new pics of the upcoming LG ‘Star’ smartphone, the new flagship in the company’s Android Optimus line.
The device will run at least Android 2.2 out of the gate, and be the first smartphone to run on a powerful Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.
Additionally it will feature an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, and a front-facing camera.
With a January release date planned, the smartphone will be the first to use a dual-core processor.
Furthermore, the site says it hears the Android will be “vanilla,” with no extra interface layers.
Earlier in the day, LG said they sold 1 million Optimus smartphones around the world in just 40 days.
