Nintendo has said today that the 3DS handheld has sold extremely well since launch Sunday in the United States.
The company says launch day sales were “the highest of any Nintendo hand-held system in our history.”
Although they did not reveal specific numbers, they confirmed that numbers would be available on April 14th, when NPD shows off the figures.
Continues the statement:
Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward.
Giant retailer GameStop also said they were very “pleased” with the sales of the handheld.

Microsoft has announced their first Kinect bundle today, setting a November 4th release date for the U.S.
The bundle will come with an Xbox 360 console, the Kinect motion control system and Kinect Adventures game for $399.99.
If purchased separately, the console would cost $300, the motion system would cost $150 and the game would cost $40, so the bundle does in fact offer a decent savings.
The bundle will be released in Europe on November 10th, and later in Japan on November 22nd.
You can pre-order the bundle now from Target, Amazon, GameStop and Best Buy.
“All you have to do is play [Kinect], or watch people play it,” says Takashi Sensui, head of Microsoft’s home and entertainment division in Japan. “It’s nothing you’ve seen, and it’s a brand new experience that I think a lot of people will be attracted to.”

Wal-Mart has started pre-orders on a new Microsoft Kinect bundle today, adding more question marks to the still unofficial price tag on the system.
Priced at $200, consumers get the Kinect system, a $30 Wal-Mart eGift Card, and one of the launch titles.
Those titles (Sports is pictured) are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One, Dance Central, Joy Ride, Kinectimals, Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures.
You can also add an additional game for $50-60 if you want to get more for your new bundle.
The Microsoft Store has the system priced at $150, but with a note that price is still subject to change. GameStop and Amazon have similar pricing, and similar notices.
Wal-Mart’s latest deal is the most cost-effective, especially given the discount off the game and the addition of the gift card, but we will see if the price sticks when the device launches in early November.
