TechRadar is saying today that Nintendo is planning to unveil the Wii 2 at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June even though the gaming company has repeatedly denied that the console is even in development.
Just last month, the company said it was not ready to begin phasing out the Wii, despite at least five quarters of declining sales.
The Wii remains a “last generation” console, whereas gaming rivals Xbox 360 and PS3 are “current generation,” with better Internet connectivity and better graphics among other features.
TR speculates that the new Wii 2 will boast a hugely improved spec sheet, including a quad-core processor, a Blu-ray drive, and built-in projector.
Nintendo quickly responded with a “no comment.”

Social gaming company Zynga’s latest hit “CityVille” is now the most popular social game in the world, with 67.4 million active users.
That figure far surpasses FarmVille, also by Zynga, which was formerly in the top spot at 57 million.
Stat-tracker AppData has been following the launch of CityVille, which Zynga released in early December.
The company says the game had 300,000 users in just its first 24 hours.
Overall, including FrontierVille, MafiaWars, FarmVille and others, Zynga now has 269 million active users playing their games on Facebook.
Zynga has 6 of the top 10 most used apps on Facebook.

Good Old Games, the European gaming company that gives gamers the chance to download old PC games that are very hard to find legally or have been abandoned, has shut down this week, just two years after going live.
The company provided titles from as far back as the early 80’s in a downloadable format that was completely DRM-free. The games were also reasonably priced, ranging from $5.99 to $9.99 per title.
Additionally, once you had purchased the title, you could download it whenever you wanted, all the times you wanted.
A statement on the site now says: “We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is. We’ve debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we’ve decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.”
While the service is now closed, the owners seem to leave some optimism for the future of the company.
Reads the end of the statement: “This doesn’t mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We’re closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.”
