In a press release issued today, Sony has announced that a few key games will be hitting the PlayStation 3 “throughout the year,” most notably God of War III and the massive multiplayer shooter MAG.
Although there were no specific release dates given, it is the first confirmation that GOW III will actually make it to gamers’ hands in 2009, quelling any rumors that production delays would push the game back to 2010.
Among other anticipated games coming this year are Uncharted 2, Infamous and Heavy Rain.
In the same press release, the company announced a new TV ad for Killzone 2, which it promises was “rendered entirely in-game.” The statement added: “We’re very proud that our game engine technology has reached the point where we don’t have to resort to software pre-rendering.”

The company was criticized over the last few years for a Killzone 2 teaser trailer that used pre-rendered action instead of in-game action.

According to a new Leichtman Research study, one-third of all Americans now own an HDTV, putting market penetration at an all-time high. The number has doubled from 2006’s figures.
Just over 22 percent of all US homes purchased a new HDTV in the last 12 months, and about 48 percent spent over $1000 USD for their new TV.
“About 40 million U.S. households now have at least one HDTV set, and LRG forecasts that this number will double over the next four years,” noted Bruce Leichtman, President and principal analyst of Leichtman Research. “While more people than ever before have HDTV sets, educating consumers on HD programming remains an issue.

HDTV prices, whether they be for DLP, LCD or plasma screens, have been dropping exponentially over the past two years and 42 inch screens with full 1080p HD resolution can be found for under $1000 depending on the brand.
The study also says that 33 percent of current HDTV owners own more than one HDTV and that of the 67 percent that don’t, 30 percent are planning to purchase a second TV in the next year.

The electronics giant Samsung has introduced a new LCD TV this week at the 2008 SID symposium in Los Angeles that sports “ultra definition” resolution of 3840×2160, or 2160p.
Current LCD panels have at maximum, 1080p (1920×1080) HD resolution so this new TV blows that out of the water. It is however, lower quality then the upcoming 4k standard which has a 4096×1716 working resolution.
The TV that was demoed measured 82 inches diagonally and had a 120Hz refresh rate, a feature not typical of such a large display. The set also includes the nice LED backlight which save energy and raises color saturation to 150 percent.
