According to John Koller, Sony’s Director of Hardware Marketing, the company has made the PSP Go battery non-replaceable in an effort to prevent piracy that has plagued earlier models, most notably the 1000 and 2000 models.
Using the infamous Pandora’s Battery, users of past PSP models could easily modify official PSP firmware and therefore play pirated games at their leisure. Sony wanted to avoid the same with the Go.
“We’ve had a lot of success with the 3000,” Koller added via PSInsider. “You won’t be able to rip your games and play them on the system, the firmware precludes that. There’s no external battery, so there’s a number of protections put into place on the system.”
The downside for consumers is the fact that if the battery ever begins to die out, you cannot simply replace it, you will have to send it into Sony to have it replaced.

According to Sony’s PlayStation blog, the PSP has seen its firmware updated to version 3.93 today, which comes with 20 new Internet radio players.
The new players are “organized into more specific styles of music so that PSP users can easily find what they are looking for and listen to their favorite genres.” Sony has said that more than 50 percent of PSP owners use the music-playback feature of their gaming handhelds.
Internet Radio functionality was originally introduced with firmware version 3.80 and gamers can can enable the Internet Radio player by going to the Network section of the Xross Media Bar. After you install the Internet Radio feature, a new icon will appear enabling music Streaming.
Also coming with the new firmware update is Skype calling, but you will need to purchase the PSP Headset Kit to use it. The set is not available yet.

Retailers in the United States have begun stocking up on the new PSP Headset Kit for Skype which should be available from retail outlets within the next month. The set is currently available in the US from a few e-tailers and in Japan.
The set includes “street-style earphones, an adjustable boom mic, and a remote control for managing volume without reaching for the PSP itself.”
The only requirements for the headset is that you have at least version 3.9 PSP firmware. The set “doubles as a communicator for games that support voice chat as well as a command system for games with voice recognition.”
The MSRP is $30 USD but price is mixed depending on the e-tailer.
