According to Nintendo, the popular DS handheld has reached a new milestone, 100 million global unit sales as of March 6th.
Sales include the original “fat” DS, the streamlined DS Lite and the new DSi which includes a camera, a larger screen, a memory card slot for playback of downloadable content, and an improved battery.
The handheld launched in late 2005 in Japan and North America and early 2005 for the European market and the DS Lite was launched in the Q2 2006 in each market.
Nintendo expects the DSi, which has launched so far only in Japan, to have shortages for this upcoming holiday season and is already warning consumers to buy early when the device hits Europe and North America in April.

Acer, the large notebook manufacturer has announced that it will be “pushing” Blu-ray notebooks beginning in the Q2 of this year.
The company, which had been signed to both Blu-ray and HD DVD, also predicted that the initial boost in Blu-ray sales would be seen in notebooks and not in standalone players.
Scott Lin, president of Acer, said the company’s reasoning for the notebook push was that “most homes do not yet have Full HD (1080p) ready TVs, a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will have more advantages over a stand-alone player.”
There are little details known about the specs of the new laptops but there will be a gigantic 18.4-inch screen model as well as a 16 inch model. Both will have 1080p Resolution.

Texas Instruments DLP Cinema has announced that IMAX will now be using DLP Cinema projectors.
Under the new agreement, beginning in Q2 2008, any IMAX Digital projection system deployed to commercial theaters will be powered by DLP Cinema projectors.
“We are proud to work with IMAX in its development and rollout of the best digital cinema experience in the market,” said Nancy Fares, business manager for DLP Cinema Products Group. “DLP Cinema projectors are the heart of every digital 2D and 3D movie experience for traditional and now large format venues. We look forward to participating in their move to digital in the months ahead.”

Since the great box office success of The Polar Express on IMAX 3D, the format in itself has made a comeback and is resurgent revenue for the movie industry.
Heres hoping everyone moves to digital soon.
