LG has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission this week, asking the ITC to block the import of the Sony PlayStation 3.
The company is claiming that the Blu-ray drive in every PS3 console violates multiple LG patents.
Sony, Sony Corporation of America, Sony Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America are all cited in the complaint, says Cnet.
The patents in question relate to “the way a Blu-ray player reproduces data from a Blu-ray disc” and how it “reproduces multiple data streams by way of multiple camera angles.”
Finally, LG says Sony is violating a patent relating to the display of subtitles in Blu-ray films.
LG’s choice, over 1500 days after the PS3 launched in the U.S., seems like a direct retaliation for Sony’s complaint filed with the ITC late last year over patent violations in mobile phones.

Sony Electronics USA President Stan Glasgow has revealed that the PlayStation 3 will soon be getting support for the BRAVIA Internet Video Link streaming video service.
New Sony Bravia HDTVs currently are compatible with the service, and those with older sets can purchase an add-on module.
There is free content such as news, weather and sports, and movies and TV are provided through Amazon VOD and soon from the PSN.
No word was given on when the firmware upgrade would hit with the update.

Sony has announced the launch of its first ever wireless Blu-ray standalone player, dubbed the BDP-S560, slated for a May release with a $350 USD price tag.
The BDP-S560, along with the upcoming entry-level BDP-S360, are BD-Live capable however the cheaper S360 will require a wired connection.
Each device will also include two external USB ports allowing for media playback off a USB flash drive.
“The demands of today’s home theater go beyond pristine picture quality, and our new Blu-ray Disc product line offers a breadth of technologies that deliver an amazing entertainment experience,” added Chris Fawcett, VP of marketing for Sony Electronics’ home product division. “Consumers don’t want a living room cluttered with wires, and the new Blu-ray Disc product lineup breaks down the wireless barriers of the past.”
Samsung first unveiled a wireless BD player at the CES event in January but there is still no word on a street date for that model.
