The Aubrun, Maine school department has announced this week that every kindergarten student in the district will receive an iPad 2 tablet for the upcoming fall semester.
There are 285 students and teachers, and the endeavor will cost around $200,000.
As a test program, 20 or so students will get their iPads in May.
Says superintendent Tom Morrill:
When you look at what the iPad 2 apps that are out there, from learning your letters from books, that can be read, finger painting your name, it’s absolutely something we must do.
School officials say they hope the iPads will boost literacy rates to 90 percent in two years. Current levels have hovered around 60 percent.

Intel has slashed the prices on their range of SSDs today, as well as adding a new, larger 120GB version to the line.
The line of X25-M maninstream drives will each see a solid discount as the holiday season approaches.
Starting with the 160GB model, the MSRP will drop to $415, the 80GB model will drop to $200 and the small 40GB will drop to $100.
The new 120GB model will sell for $250. The new version will offer the best per/GB value of the entire line.
For now the new prices seem effective only in the U.S., but expect it to be extended to the U.K., as well.

Trying new marketing, Paramount and Papa John’s have started a new promotion that will have the pizza chain selling pizzas in Transformers-themed boxes as well as giving some customers $3 USD coupons off the upcoming release of the Revenge of the Fallen Blu-ray or DVD.
Buyers of the “Mega XL Pizza” through November 1st will receive the coupon.
