As promised last month, the iPhone Dev-Team has now released their iPhone 4 unlocking tool, Ultrasn0w, which can be used by U.S. owners tired of being stuck on AT&T.
The carrier unlock required a complete rewrite of the software because of Apple’s new baseband OS for the updated phone.
It is important to note that users who unlock their iPhone 4 can use T-Mobile’s cell network but not its high-speed 3G data.

-Step 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 from Cydia. To do this:
-Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
-Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
-Now touch on “Sources”
-Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” and touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already.

Last week, noted hacker Geohot posted to his blog that he had jailbroken the Apple iPhone 4 but quickly stated that he would not be releasing the tool to the public anytime soon.
Today, icons MuscleNerd and Planetbeing have posted that they have jailbroken and unlocked the iPhone 4, with the tools likely coming after Apple releases their iOS 4.0.1/4.1 update in the coming weeks.
The update should help solve the problem behind that aptly named “antennagate,” where iPhone 4 users continuously lose reception when holding the phones in their left hands, covering the antenna.
Planetbeing tweeted this morning: “Looks like I now have an unlocked iPhone 4 :)”
The hacker then posted a picture of his phone running Cydia, the jailbroken phone App Store, while connected to Bell Canada. It seems he used “code of @comex’s userland jailbreak method.”
If Apple keeps the exploits unpatched, expect the tool out when the firmware update hits.

Beginning tomorrow, the Apple iPhone will finally launch in Israel, with carrier Cellcom being the first carrier to offer the device. Within the next week, Orange and Pelephone will offer the smartphone as well.
Notably, each carrier is only being required to buy 80,000 iPhones for resale, however, Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst Haim Israel says the carriers will be purchasing much more.
Israel has one of the highest mobile phone penetration rates in the world at 125 percent, and it is estimated that 80,000 Israelis currently use unlocked iPhones bought online or abroad.
The analyst also believes that “the iPhone will boost average revenue per user by 30 percent…thus, the average payback period would be only 13 months.”
